What happens at the music club?

Have a look at what we have been up to this summer….
Children, carers and siblings meet once a month (first Monday in the month) during term time and once a week during the holiday period.

Term time sessions last for an hour led by the children and facilitated by a music specialist with experience in supporting people with disabilities.

Following the music session, carers have an opportunity to meet to share ideas with each other and with the music leader over some light refreshments.
Term time music sessions include music and movement with Drumming, Soundabout, Choirs, music with music therapist using sound beams, Morris dancers, Sing along sessions, steel pan session.
Holiday activities – fun days (bouncy castle, archery, climbing wall, circus skills, live band, barbeque, parachute games, themed arts and craft), discos, trips out to the theatre and music concerts.

In September 2011, we ran our first training session, Understanding Makaton for Beginners. Makaton is used ?a number of our club members. Music Workshop leaders, parents and other professionals working with disabled children had expressed a need for training in this area. Cat Kelly, Makaton Trainer ran a session for 10 people all of whom received certificates of completion. Delegates included music leaders, parents and other professionals working with disabled children or young people.
